Toronto (canadaTECH.INFO) - April 2, 2009 - Q9 Networks Inc. today announced it has signed a 15-year data centre services agreement with EDS Advanced Solutions to support EAS' recently announced contract with the British Columbia Ministry of Labour and Citizens' Services.
As part of Q9's agreement with EAS, valued in excess of $100 million, Q9 will build and operate a new data centre in Kamloops, British Columbia. The high-availability facility is expected to be built in phases with an ultimate capacity of at least 3.5 megawatts of critical power and cooling capacity. While EDS Advanced Solutions and the B.C. Government will be anchor tenants, capacity in the new state-of-the-art facility will also be available to other Q9 commercial customers.
The Kamloops data centre will be built to the same exacting standards as all Q9 data centres and is expected to include such features as outside air cooling capability to maximize energy efficiency, biometric security systems, multiple connections to the Internet, redundant power, HVAC and fire suppression systems, as well as 7x24 on-site security and technical support teams.
Q9 will also provide EDS Advanced Solutions with capacity in its newest Calgary data centre, scheduled to open in the second half of 2009.
"We are delighted to be partnering with EDS Advanced Solutions to support the Province's critical computing requirements," said Osama Arafat, Chief Executive Officer, Q9 Networks. "With this agreement, we are significantly adding to our national footprint. In particular, we expect customers in British Columbia and Alberta to leverage the new Kamloops facility as an integral part of their business continuity solutions."
"The Province is looking for a seamless solution that will support its changing, complex and growing data centre needs," said Jim Hamilton, president of EDS Advanced Solutions, an EDS subsidiary. "As a capable player in the Canadian outsourced data centre services market, Q9 is an ideal partner for this project."
Q9 designs, builds and operates its data centres to meet the most demanding IT infrastructure requirements, including the increased power and cooling demands of today's high density computing devices. Customers connect to the Internet via Q9's unique network and are protected by Q9's 100 percent, SLA-backed uptime guarantees on both power and network availability.
